Crews are in Dresden and in Chatham to determine if a tornado touched down

The damage from Thursday night's powerful storm is still being assessed in Chatham-Kent.

The Northern Tornadoes Project has sent teams to survey storm damage near Dresden and in the Chatham area to determine if a tornado touched down.

Meantime, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent said residents will temporarily be permitted to bring their large private tree limbs out to the municipal right of way on their street and Public Works crews will pick up the debris over the next several weeks.

Municipal officials also said the Chatham Leaf and Yard Depot will be open an extra day this weekend to help residents with clean up in the aftermath of the ferocious storm in Chatham-Kent Thursday night.

The depot will be open on Sunday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on top of the regular hours of 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and residents are encouraged to take their small brush to the Leaf and Yard Depot.

"Crews are doing their best in dealing with the aftermath as quickly as possible," said Chatham-Kent's Manager of Corporate Communications Eric Labadie.

For municipal inquiries, please call 311 and 911 for emergencies.
