Pair arrested on bail violations following dispute in Chatham

Two people have been charged following a domestic dispute in Chatham over the weekend.

Police said they were called to a residence on Grand Avenue West for a disturbance at around 4:42 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers learned that the man, who no longer wanted the woman at his home, requested police assistance to remove her.

During their investigation, it was discovered that the woman was bound by a release order issued by the Durham Regional Police Service, which included a condition prohibiting her from communicating or associating with the man.

Police said further investigation revealed that the man had been allowing the woman to reside with him despite the release order.

As a result, both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Chatham-Kent Police headquarters.

The 29-year-old Ontario woman has been charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.

The 32-year-old Chatham man has been charged with facilitating a breach of an undertaking.

Man and woman arrested on bail violations in separate incidents

A 38-year-old Camden Township man was charged after failing to comply with conditions after being released from court back in April and June.

Police said the man was required to report to the Chatham-Kent Police Service every Monday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The man allegedly continuously failed to adhere to this condition, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest.

Officers arrested the man on August 20 and transported him to police headquarters in Chatham.

The man was charged with failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held pending a bail hearing.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman has also been charged for communicating with a woman she was ordered by the court not to talk to.

Police said they were called to a disturbance on Park Street in Chatham just before 8:20 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers arrived on the scene and located the two women.

Officers learned the court released the woman on December 20, 2023, with a condition prohibiting her from communicating with the other woman. 

The 26-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order. She was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date.

Man charged with mischief, arson following series of disturbances in downtown Chatham

A 31-year-old Chatham man is charged with mischief and arson after causing damage throughout downtown Chatham.

Police were called to King Street West just after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday to investigate reports of mischief.

Officers learned that a man reportedly threw rocks through a business window.

Witnesses also observed him kicking over trash cans and mailboxes, which led to numerous calls to the police. 

The man allegedly escalated the situation by removing his shirt, holding it against a building, and setting it on fire.

Police located the man on the Third Street bridge.

He was arrested and charged with mischief and arson.
