OPP urges caution as Hogs for Hospice roars

Law enforcement in Windsor-Essex is preparing for one of the biggest regional fundraisers of the summer.

The annual Hogs For Hospice begins Friday at Seacliff Park in Leamington. The three-day motorcycle rally is the largest annual benefit for The Hospice's Erie Shores campus.

With thousands of motorcycles expected to be in the Leamington area through Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging people to be patient and mindful of the additional traffic.

"As motorcycle enthusiasts descend on Leamington over the Civic Holiday weekend, there will be an increase in motorcycle traffic," said OPP Essex County Acting Staff Sergeant Ian Rathbone." We are asking all drivers to take the extra time before making a lane change or proceeding through an intersection. Observing posted speed limits and keeping alcohol, drugs, and distractions off our roads are vital to keeping everyone safe."

Drivers are also being asked to be more vigilant when signaling turns and taking a second or two to check blind spots.

The OPP will have additional officers in the area to keep traffic moving and ensure everyone attending is safe.

Hogs For Hospice consists of a four-hour motorcycle ride on Saturday, allowing riders to "Tour the Tip". Musician Scott Stapp will headline a concert Friday night with guests Honeymoon Suite, and Jake Owen is on Saturday night with special guest A Thousand Heroes.

Food trucks and vendors will be on hand all weekend. A pancake breakfast is set for Saturday and Sunday mornings, with a Sunday worship service scheduled.

Complete information on Hogs For Hospice can be found on its official website.
