Man arrested following violent dispute at local business

A 21-year-old is charged with assault after a physical altercation at a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police said their investigation started at around 1:40 a.m. on June 18 when they were called to investigate an assault.

Officers learned a physical altercation occurred between two men, and caused both men to need medical attention for their injuries.

Through investigation, video evidence and the severity of the injuries sustained, the officer formed grounds to arrest both men.

 The 21-year-old man turned himself into the police just after 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

He was arrested and charged with assault.

He was processed at police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of September 11, 2023.

Chatham man arrested after verbal argument turns physical

 A 46-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault after he allegedly grabbed a woman and caused her to fall and hit her head.

Police were called to a residence on Park Street in Chatham at around 8:54 p.m. to investigate a domestic disturbance.

Officers learned the man confronted his stepson regarding cannabis consumption.

In speaking with his stepson, who was in the company of a friend, the man attempted to take away his stepson's paraphernalia.

The friend then tried to run away with one of the items, resulting in a physical altercation. 

 Police said the man then confronted his spouse inside the home.

They argued about the stepson, which escalated when the man grabbed the woman, causing her to fall and hit her head.

The woman received medical attention from EMS. 

 The 46-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
