Canada's Prime Minister has announced he and his wife are separating.
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire each announced the separation in separate Instagram posts on Wednesday afternoon.
"Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to seperate," Trudeau wrote in the post to his more than 4-million followers. "As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build. For the well-being of our children, we ask that you respect our and their privacy. Thank you."
Trudeau, 51, and Grégoire, 48, have been married since 2005.
They have three children; Xavier, who was born in 2007. Ella-Grace was born in 2009, and Hadrien Gregoire was born in 2014.
Grégoire is a former television host who has also been active in raising money for charities.
She has also been a common presence throughout most of Trudeau's political career.
Trudeau has been Prime Minister since 2015.
