Man beaten up, hospitalized for a month after allegedly attacking woman

Three people are facing charges after a 19-year-old man was beaten up and hospitalized when he allegedly violently attacked a woman in Wallaceburg.

Police said their investigation started shortly before 10 p.m. on June 30 when they were called to a disturbance on Westcourt Boulevard in Wallaceburg.

Investigators said they learned that the 19-year-old man had been visiting a friend at the residence when his friend's parents got home.

Police said the 19-year-old man was then asked to leave by a woman after some "disruptive behaviour," at which point, the 19-year-old man allegedly broke a bottle and used a shard of glass to attack the woman's neck.

Officers said two men who saw the assault stepped in and allegedly hit the 19-year-old man multiple times in the head until he was unconscious.

Police said the woman and the man were both rushed to the hospital by EMS with life-threatening injuries.

The woman was later transferred to a hospital in London for further treatment. She has since been released.

The 19-year-old man was transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital for further treatment and was arrested and charged with aggravated assault as soon as he was released from his medical care on Tuesday, August 1.

The man was then taken to police headquarters and was set to be held in custody -- first for a bail hearing and then for another court appearance on Wednesday.

Police said the 18-year-old Wallaceburg man and a 30-year-old Wallaceburg man who stepped in and allegedly beat up the man were both charged with aggravated assault in connection with the case.

They were taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing and later released with conditions and a future court date.
