A driver in Wheatley is finding out the hard way just how effective the Chatham-Kent Police Service's license plate scanners can be.
CK police said one of their Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPR) recently alerted an officer to an unauthorized license plate in Wheatley, which helped to uncover a series of other violations, too.
Police said when the officer was investigating, they learned that the driver had previous Impaired Driving charges and required an Ignition Interlock System to be installed in their vehicle.
Investigators said the person behind the wheel also had a G1 driver's license, which requires them to have a fully licensed driver in the vehicle along with them.
As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and charged with multiple offences including driving without a mandatory ignition interlock, driving without a qualified driver, driving without insurance, and possession of unuauthorized plates.
The driver was released with provincial offences notices and a future court date -- the vehicle was towed and was set to be impounded for 45 days.
