Multiple brands of caffeinated drinks have been recalled due to non-compliance issues related to both caffeine content and labelling.
Health Canada is pulling all caffeinated flavours of the following brands off the shelves:
3D Alphaland - energy drinks
5 Hour - energy drinks
Celsius - dietary supplement
GFuel - energy drinks
Prime - energy drinks
Sting - energy drink
Some of the affected products, such as Prime, contain high levels of caffeine which could be dangerous to some consumers.
The drink, developed and promoted by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, contains 200 mg of caffeine per can, which exceeds Canada's health regulations by 20 mg.
"High levels of caffeine may have adverse health effects for children, pregnant individuals, breastfeeding individuals, and those sensitive to caffeine. Exercising while consuming caffeine may lead to adverse health effects. Some of the side effects of consuming excess caffeine may include insomnia, irritability, headaches, and nervousness." Health Canada said in its recall.
None of the affected products are compliant with Canada's labelling rules, as they don't have bilingual labels.
Sting, a product of Pepsi, only contains Vietnamese wording.
All products have been sold nationally, both in store and online.
