Knife-wielding man attacks police vehicle

A marked police cruiser was doing a property check at the back of a Chatham business when a man charged at it with a large knife, police said.

The two officers inside the cruiser said the man started banging on the vehicle's windows with the knife still in hand.

The officers reversed the car away from the accused before they managed to get out and arrest him.

After his arrest, Chatham-Kent police found that the man already faces several charges in a different jurisdiction.

Road rage incident leads to charges

Chatham-Kent police received a call from a concerned citizen, who saw a man driving a vehicle erratically on Queen Street. The driver reportedly struck another vehicle and cut off other motorists several times.

Calls from other witnesses led police to the accused when he got out of his vehicle.

The driver was tested and found to be impaired.

He faces several charges including dangerous driving and driving while under suspension.

The man's vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.

Woman faces assault charges

A woman faces a slew of charges including mischief, assault, assault with a weapon, and assaulting and resisting police.

Chatham-Kent police said that the woman went to a Longwoods Road address and got into a verbal altercation that quickly escalated. She allegedly damaged property, attacked a man, and threatened him with a knife.

The woman was found at a different address, where she resisted arrest and assaulted officers, police said.

Disturbance leads to threats

Chatham-Kent police responded to an incident at a St. Clair Street business over the weekend.

Police said that after a man was refused entry to a store he began to threaten the staff and other patrons.

The man was arrested and charged with uttering threats and causing a disturbance.

Police said the man was found to already have several charges before the courts and was held for bail.
