Chatham man turns himself in after church break-in

Chatham-Kent police said a man turned himself in following a break-and-enter at a local church Tuesday morning.

Just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a reported break-in at St. Andrew's Church on William Street.

Police said K9 Helix helped to clear the building. 

A 41-year-old Chatham man later turned himself in and was arrested and charged with break and enter.

He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham man out on probation arrested for assault

A man who was out on probation is charged with assault and uttering threats after a disturbance on Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham.

Police said a fight broke out between two men at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday where one man allegedly assaulted a resident of the area.

The man fled the scene before police arrived, but officers located him nearby. 

Police said they confirmed the suspect was bound by conditions of a release order and probation order, including not being within 25 meters of the Wedgewood Avenue address and not communicating or within 100 meters of the occupant. 

The 46-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault, uttering threats, two counts of failing to comply with a release order and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. 

He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing, police said.

Tilbury man arrested after series of alleged domestic assaults

An 18-year-old Tilbury area man is facing a handful of charges after a woman was allegedly assaulted several times over the past six months.

Police said one of those alleged assaults also resulted in the woman losing consciousness.

Officers arrested the man after they were called to Redwood Crescent in Chatham at around 10 p.m. Tuesday for a domestic disturbance.

Police said the man allegedly assaulted the woman, causing bodily harm.

Investigators said they also learned of other alleged incidents between January and June 2023. 

The man was charged in connection with the investigation and later released with conditions and a future court date. 

Wanted man arrested after a chase

On Tuesday morning, an officer arrested a wanted man on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg during a general patrol.

The 34-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after running away from the officer.

He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.
