Assault with a lamp

A 36-year-old Dresden man is facing charges after he allegedly went into someone's home uninvited and hit them with a lamp.

Police said they were called to the address on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg for that report on May 31, adding that the victim was taken to the hospital by EMS for medical attention.

Officers said the man was also bound by a release order that required him not to possess any weapons (as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada).

Police issued a warrant for the man's arrest and an officer on general patrol caught up with him on Sunday on West Street in Dresden.

The man was arrested, taken to police headquarters, and charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling house, assault with a weapon, and failing to comply with a release order.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman already banned from store arrested for shoplifting there

A 29-year-old Chatham woman is facing a handful of charges after she was allegedly caught shoplifting from a store she had been banned from attending.

Police said they were called to the business on St. Clair Street in Chatham for a theft investigation shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday and learned that the woman had allegedly been removing items from shelves and hiding them on her person.

Officers were able to find the woman and also confirmed that she had previously been released from custody with a condition that required her to stay away from that specific store.

The woman was arrested and charged with theft, possession of stolen property, and failing to comply with a release order.

She was also set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for public intoxication

A 59-year-old Chatham man who was allegedly seen walking down the middle of a road in Chatham spent some time sobering up in police custody.

Police said they arrested him at around 4 p.m. Sunday after getting a report about a man who was walking down the middle of Peter Street.

Officers said the man was "intoxicated and unable to care for himself" when they found him, so he was taken into custody until he sobered up.

Man arrested for alleged domestic assault

A 32-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats after police got a call about a domestic disturbance Sunday night.

Police said their investigation showed that a man and a woman were arguing when things got physical.

The woman was reportedly hurt as a result of the incident and man also allegedly threatened to cause further harm.

The accused was arrested, charged, and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
