Work on new hydro line between Chatham, Lakeshore set to begin

A new Hydro One transmission line between Chatham and Lakeshore is set to break ground on Monday.

Hydro One's President David Lebeter and Ontario's Minister of Energy Todd Smith will be in Chatham on Monday morning to mark the start of construction on the new hydro line.

Hydro One says the new line will unlock potential future growth in the area and will help meet the growing demand for electricity in the coming years.

Several community leaders will also be on hand at the Chatham Switching Station to celebrate the milestone.

The 230-kilovolt transmission line will run north of Queen’s Line in Chatham-Kent and enter Essex County south of County Road 42 and should be in service by 2025.

Hydro One said the Chatham-Lakeshore Transmission Line will supply enough electricity to power a city the size of Windsor.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff previously said he's excited because the transmission line is needed to support growth in the area.
