This year's Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation’s Golf Tournament has raised a record $131,245 to buy surgical equipment.
The amount surpassed last year’s previous record of $110,340.
This year's tournament proceeds will help buy a new operating room surgical table with bariatric extensions.
The bariatric extensions will better support the body weight of a growing number of larger patients and help to minimize possible pressure injuries from lying on the table too long.
“It’s clear that our community understands how crucially important it is for CKHA’s Operating Room to be equipped with updated, accessible Surgical Tables to accommodate a wide variety of patients from across Chatham-Kent,” said Foundation Board Chair Bob Hockney. “It’s really an honour to be a part of a fundraiser that has achieved record-breaking success in back-to-back years, and I know that our golfers, partners, and volunteers feel the same way. We certainly couldn’t have done it without them.”
Foundation officials said 128 golfers played in the tournament on June 9, 2023 at Maple City Country Club.
According to Foundation officials, this year’s tournament received support from over fifty sponsors and in-kind partners from across Chatham-Kent and beyond.
“The success that this golf tournament has experienced over the last couple of years has been really overwhelming, raising a record-setting amount last year and then breaking that record again this year,” said Foundation President Mary Lou Crowley. “For a charity golf tournament to raise a staggering number like $131,245, you need the support of so many generous partner organizations and community members who are deeply passionate about the cause, and that’s exactly what we have here in Chatham-Kent. We continue to be amazed by the way that this community pulls together and steps up to support its local hospital, and we really hope that all of our golfers had as much fun on Friday as we did.”
Planning Committee Chair John Schinkel thanked the 30-plus volunteers who "played important roles" throughout the tournament and helped it run smoothly.
