Suspected fentanyl allegedly found on passed out driver

A 36-year-old Chatham man is facing impaired driving and drug charges after police followed up on a tip about two people who were reportedly passed out in a parked vehicle.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to investigate that in a parking lot on Richmond Street in Chatham just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday and allegedly found a man passed out in the vehicle's driver's seat and a woman in the passenger's seat.

Officers said they believed the man was impaired by a substance, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for some tests.

Police also allegedly found some suspected fentanyl in the man's pocket when they searched him.

He was charged with impaired driving and drug possession and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Wanted woman arrested in Chatham

The law has caught up with a 60-year-old Chatham-Kent who was wanted for theft in connection with a case going back to the end of March.

Police said officers on general patrol found the woman on St. Clair Street in Chatham shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday and arrested her.

She was taken back to police headquarters, charged with theft and possession of stolen property, and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police catch up with man wanted for skipping court

A 53-year-old Chatham man has a new court date set now after he allegedly skipped his last one.

Police said an officer on general patrol recognized the man Thursday afternoon shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Queen Street in Chatham.

The officer was able to confirm that the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court, so he was arrested.

He was later released with a new court date in July.
