Drunk driving charge laid after serious crash in in Dover Township

A Pain Court man is facing an impaired driving charge after a two-vehicle crash just west of Chatham that sent one person to the hospital.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene on Maple Line at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and learned that a man who was driving a pickup truck was heading west when his vehicle allegedly rear-ended a car in front of it.

Police said the force of the crash pushed the car off the road and into a hydro pole.

The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene by paramedics while the driver of the car was taken to the hospital in Chatham for medical treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Investigators said they believed the driver in the pickup truck was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 60-year-old Pain Court man was later charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm before he was released with a future court date.

The damage was estimated at $70,000 and anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Constable Kristen Charron at kristenc@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
