A new teaching program at the hospital in Chatham is expanding, thanks to a new partnership with Scotiabank.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) announced the partnership with a cheque presentation Tuesday with officials from the foundation, the hospital, and Scotiabank.
The bank has committed a total of $67,200 over a two-year period to support the Dynamic Simulation program at the CKHA.
Dynamic Simulation was founded by Dr. Shawn Segeren, who is an Emergency Department Physician at CKHA, in April 2020.
Dr. Segeren started a series of clinical simulation sessions focused on resuscitating patients with COVID-19.
Over the past two years, the program has branched out to offer a wide variety of critical-care simulation sessions and procedural skills days for ED physicians, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and other specialists at CKHA.
“These inter-professional simulations have allowed our teams to work together to manage some very complex, interesting cases, which has really benefited the ED teams at both the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites,” said Dr. Segeren in a statement. “This strong financial support from Scotiabank will allow us to offer more high-fidelity simulations, leveraging new equipment that will allow us to better serve our ED teams, other hospital departments, and our community as a whole.”
Clinical simulation is a teaching method that allows healthcare workers to practice scenarios and resuscitation using realistic situations and equipment.
The funding will help support a total of ten Dynamic Simulation sessions and two procedural skill days per year for the next two years.
