If Chatham-Kent mayor Darrin Canniff has his way, next week could feel more like Christmas-time in the municipality.
Starting Monday, May 1, the municipality of Chatham-Kent is planning to roll out a new promotional initiative where it will highlight "something new" every business day (Mon-Fri) throughout the month.
Mayor Canniff hinted at the new initiative -- now dubbed "Celebrating CK in May" -- during the recent Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce's Business Excellence Awards.
He followed that up with some more details during a conversation on CK Mornings with Chris, Allanah, and Matt on 94.3 CKSY this week.
"It's going to be a cross section of a lot of different things, but it's going to be new things happening in Chatham-Kent," said Canniff. "It will range in size -- it won't be a large announcement every day but it's going to be something new... some new business coming to town, it'll be some new programs coming, it'll be arts and culture."
The mayor didn't give any specifics on which sectors or communities would be the focus of the announcements, but said there should be "something for everyone" and that it will be similar to the build-up before Christmas.
"I equate it to having the 20 something days before Christmas and every day you get to open up a gift," said Canniff. "At Christmas time, you get bigger gifts and you get smaller ones -- you get a tube of toothpaste in your stocking or you get one of those bigger gifts... it's like the Advent calendar in May."
Canniff added that at the end of the initiative, the municipality will be asking for feedback on what people thought about the announcements they made.
He said the information will be released on social media and in the form of press releases, starting Monday morning.
