Traffic stop turns up alleged drug dealer

A Ridgetown man who wasn't supposed to be driving in the first place is facing drug and driving-related charges after police pulled him over in Chatham Wednesday night.

Chatham-Kent police said they pulled the driver over just before 9 p.m. Wednesday and learned that the man behind the wheel of the vehicle had a suspended driver's license and had also been banned from driving because of a previous impaired driving conviction.

Police arrested the man and allegedly found a significant amount of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and cash.

The vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days and the 65-year-old Ridgetown man was charged with one count of driving while banned and three counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
