Over two dozen tourism-centric projects across southwestern Ontario will be supported by funding from Ottawa.
FedDev Ontario, a federal program providing services to support innovation and economic growth in southern Ontario, has awarded $6-million to support 26 projects in Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton.
"The investments for these 26 projects are helping southwestern Ontario communities and businesses welcome back tourists and prepare for a strong, resilient future," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk, who made the announcement Friday on behalf of Filomena Tassi, Minister Responsible for FedDev for Southern Ontario.
The announcement was made at Art Windsor-Essex, which will receive $135,000 in funds to create a digital tourism art experience. Developed in partnership with the Moment Factory, the project is already operational and runs through June 4.
Hackforge, a Windsor-Based technology non-profit, will receive $100,000 to create tourism experiences for the region's LGBTQ+ community.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is another recipient of FedDev Ontario funding, receiving $750,000 to replace the existing Mud Creek pathway with a wider multi-use accessible pathway. The Ridgetown District Agricultural Society will use $155,024 to build a new pavilion.
The Pathways Centre for Children in Sarnia has been awarded $748,873 to refurbish its pool changing rooms and offices to improve accessibility, HVAC capability, plumbing, and electrical systems.
