Woman arrested for failing to pay restitution

A 40-year-old Chatham woman is in more trouble with police after she allegedly failed to meet a restitution payment deadline.

Police said the woman was released on March 9, 2022 with a peace bond that required her to pay restitution to someone by a specified date.

Officers said she didn't pay that out in time, though, and was given "further opportunities" to do so.

Police said she was notified on Tuesday she was charged with failing to comply and that a warrant had been issued for her arrest.

She turned herself in at police headquarters a day later, at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Traffic stop leads police to woman who allegedly skipped court

A 52-year-old Wallaceburg woman who was charged with assault and then allegedly skipped her court date has a new appointment with a judge now.

Chatham-Kent police said she was initially charged with assault in connection with a complaint in Wallaceburg on November 6 last year and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police said they issued a warrant for her arrest after she allegedly failed to show up for that date.

Officers said they caught up with her when they pulled a vehicle over on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman was arrested and taken into custody briefly before she was released again with a new court date.
