Ridgetown man accused of hitting mom, spitting on her

A 30-year-old Ridgetown man is facing a whole bunch of charges after a heated argument with his mom that turned violent.

Police said he also got locked out of the house at one point.

Officers were called to the home on Main Street in Ridgetown just before 6 p.m. Thursday for a complaint about a family dispute.

That's when they learned that the man and his mother had been arguing when the man allegedly picked up some items in the kitchen and damaged them by throwing them to the floor.

Police said after that, the man hit his mom with a broom handle and spat on her several times.

Eventually, the mother was able to lock her son outside and called police.

Officers also learned that the man had allegedly taken his mother's vehicle earlier in the day without her permission.

Police arrested the man and charged him with mischief, assault, assault with a weapon, driving while disqualified, and taking a motor vehicle without consent.

He was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

---------------- Man who crashed into a ditch near Tilbury charged with impaired driving

A 59-year-old Raleigh Township man is facing an impaired driving charge after a crash near Tilbury Thursday evening that injuried himself and his passenger.

Police said they were called to the scene on Eight Line Road in Tilbury East Township just after 6 p.m. Thursday and learned that the driver had lost control of the vehicle before it went off the road and went into a ditch.

The driver and the passenger were both taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The first officer who arrived at the scene believed the man had been driving while impaired, so he had some breath tests done.

He was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and was released with conditions and a future court date.
