Chatham man accused of assaulting woman during domestic incident
A 34-year-old Chatham man is facing charges and a bail hearing after he allegedly violated his release conditions by visiting his victim.
Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man after they responded to a call about a domestic disturbance on Park Avenue East in Chatham just before 8 p.m. Sunday.
Police said their investigation showed that the man had entered the victim's residence even though he had been released with conditions that required him not to go to her home or to communicate with her.
Officers said the man also refused to leave when he was told to go away.
Police said the situation escalated to the point where the man picked the victim up and dropped her on the floor as he tried to take her cell phone away from her.
The man took off before police arrived, so they issued a warrant for his arrest and found him just after 8:30 a.m. Monday.
The accused was arrested and charged with one count of assault and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
