Tilbury woman charged after stolen vehicle rammed into police cruiser, other vehicle
A 30-year-old faces several charges after police say a woman driving a stolen vehicle struck a police cruiser and another vehicle in Chatham while trying to evade arrest.
Chatham-Kent police received a complaint about stolen vehicle in Tilbury on Saturday.
The vehicle was spotted entering Chatham shortly after and several police units co-ordinated in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Police said two cruisers were used to initiate a rolling block, which is a maneuver designed to prevent a suspect vehicle from fleeing by blocking its path and forcing it to slow down and eventually stop.
However, the woman allegedly rammed the police cruiser and fled through a red light at an intersection.
“The suspect vehicle then struck an unrelated motorist and came to a stop,” police said in a release Sunday. “There were no major injuries as a result of the collision.”
The accused was identified as a Tilbury woman and she was arrested at the scene.
While in custody, she was believed to be intoxicated by illicit drugs and allegedly failed a sobriety test by a drug recognition officer.
The woman was on house arrest for several offences and was also allegedly breaching her conditional sentence order.
She was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime. dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, two counts of failing to stop after crash, two counts of operation while prohibited, obstructing police, and operation while impaired.
The woman was held pending a bail hearing.
