UPDATE: Suspect asks victim for a light before hitting him

Chatham-Kent police are asking you to check the tapes on your surveillance cameras on Richmond Street in Chatham after an early morning assault.

Now, they are also looking for a man driving a black pick-up truck who was driving in the area around the time of the assault.

Police said they were called to the scene just before 6 a.m. Thursday and learned that the victim had been walking between Raleigh Street and West Street when he was approached by a man who asked for a light.

The suspect then allegedly attacked the victim with a "blunt object."

Police said they have now learned that a man driving a black pick-up truck stopped to talk to the victim after the incident and they are are asking the potential witness to come forward.

The suspect was wearing a black hoodie/jacket and beige pants at the time, so police are asking anyone with surveillance cameras to check the footage to see if they have any tape that could help investigators.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Bryan Parker at bryanpa@chatham-kent.ca. You can also submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
