Masked man robs bank in Chatham

A 29-year-old Chatham man didn't get very far after he allegedly robbed a bank in Chatham Tuesday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the Bank of Montreal on St. Clair Street in Chatham just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after a man wearing a black medical mask slipped a teller a note telling them to give him all of the money they had.

The man then took off with an undisclosed amount of cash, but he was arrested a short distance away after police got a description of him.

The accused was charged with robbery and he was taken back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Police catch up with driver who almost hit a police cruiser head-on

The law has caught up with a 38-year-old Blenheim man accused of running away from officers during a police chase a month ago.

Police said their investigation started just before 9 p.m. on December 14 when an officer who was heading south on Marlborough Street South in Blenheim saw a vehicle coming head-on towards him in the same lane.

The officer was able to quickly move his vehicle out of the way to avoid a collision, but when police tried to stop the vehicle that almost hit him, the driver kept going.

Police said the vehicle eventually stopped in a plowed field off of Chatham Street South and then both of the people inside tried to run away into a wooded area.

Officers managed to catch up with the passenger, a 22-year-old Chatham woman, and arrested her before later releasing her without conditions.

Police were also able to identify the driver, but they couldn't find him right away, so they issued a warrant for his arrest.

Officers caught up with him at around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday on Catherine Street in Blenheim and arrested him.

The 38-year-old Blenheim man was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order and one count each of dangerous driving, fleeing from police, and driving while prohibited.

He was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

CK police track down man wanted in Waterloo

Chatham-Kent police were able to help out some of their colleagues at the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) by arresting a man who was wanted by the WRPS.

CK police said the WRPS reached out to them at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday asking for help to arrest the man, who was wanted for crimes that were committed in the WRPS' jurisdiction.

Police in Chatham-Kent were able to track him down and arrested him.

He was then turned over to WRPS for court purposes.

Man wanted by Lambton OPP was allegedly carrying drugs, too

A 39-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was already wanted by police is in even more trouble now after police allegedly found him carrying around some illegal drugs.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on general patrol spotted the man walking on Murray Street in Wallaceburg just after 2 a.m. Wednesday and recognized him from "prior interactions."

The officer then learned that the man was wanted by Lambton OPP, so he was arrested.

Police allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine on the man when they searched him -- even though he had previously been released with a condition that required him not to purchase or possess any illegal drugs.

As a result, he was charged with drug possession and failing to comply with his release conditions.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
