Man hits woman in the jaw during domestic argument

A 59-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly hit a woman in the jaw while they were arguing over the weekend.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested him after they were called to an address on Water Street in Wallaceburg just before 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers said the attack caused the woman's jaw to swell and their investigation also showed that it wasn't the first time the man had injured the woman.

The accused was charged with three counts of assault (two of them for causing bodily harm) and two counts of forcible confinement.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Two people arrested after police find stolen vehicle

Two Chatham-Kent residents are facing charges after police allegedly found them inside a stolen vehicle early Monday morning.

Police said they pulled the vehicle over on Scane Road in Howard Township just after 12 a.m. Monday and when they ran a check of the license plates, they came up as being registered to another vehicle.

Officers said further investigation showed them that the vehicle they stopped was reported stolen from a business on Mitton Line in August 2022.

The two people who were inside the vehicle when police found it were both arrested.

The 31-year-old Wallaceburg woman riding as a passenger was charged with possession of stolen property and later released with a future court date.

The 27-year-old Ridgetown man driving the vehicle was also charged with possession of stolen property -- but he's facing some more charges, too.

Police said the man was additionally charged with driving while suspended and using an unauthorized license plate.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
