Man accused of trying to cash stolen cheque

A 34-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to cash himself a cheque that he stole from a local business.

Chatham-Kent police said they were notified of the theft at a McNaughton Avenue East business on November 16, adding that the suspect had allegedly stolen about $4,000 in tools and cheques.

Police said one of the cheques that was stolen had been forged in an attempt to have it cashed at a local bank.

Officers arrested the suspect on Thursday and charged him with theft, possession of stolen property, fraud, and uttering forged documents.

He was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Two wanted women arrested

Chatham-Kent police have arrested two more people on their wanted list.

Police said one of them was a 20-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted for a bail violation. She was arrested at police headquarters after she turned herself in to police just after 7 a.m. Thursday.

She was later released with conditions and a future court date.

A second woman who was wanted by police was also arrested on Thursday.

Police said a 38-year-old Chatham-Kent woman who was wanted for failing to show up for court was arrested just before noon on Thursday.

Officers took her back to police headquarters and she was also later released with conditions and a future court date.

CK police team raises almost $6K during Movember

The Chatham-Kent Police Service's Critical Incident Response Team is celebrating a successful Movember fundraiser.

They collected $5,928 during November, placing 6th out of 112 services during the Great Canadian Police Challenge.

Constable Dwayne June placed 17th out of 492 officers who participated.

All the money raised by the team will support the Movember movement -- an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.

Police are Looking for the Owner of Found Property

If you're missing a bag that fell out of your pickup truck, Chatham-Kent police want to hear from you.

Police said a citizen has turned over a bag that fell out of the truck's box at around 8 a.m. on Friday in the area of  Grand Avenue and St. Clair Street. Police said the good samaritan saw the goods fall out of a dark grey Chevy pickup truck leaving a business in the area and turned it into police.
