Crash takes out hydro pole, power for Merlin

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a crash on Merlin Road early Monday morning that was expected to knock out power to the town for several hours.

Police said a pickup truck was heading north on Merlin Road at around 5:30 a.m. Monday when it went off the road and hit a hydro pole before hitting another car that was parked in a driveway.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the driver walking down the roadway and he was taken to the hospital in Chatham for treatment.

There is no word yet on whether charges will be laid or the extent of the man's injuries.

Entegrus said Hydro One would be cutting power to the entire town of Merlin from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Monday "to replace a broken pole due to a motor vehicle accident."
