UCC students to collect food donations on Halloween

Kids in Chatham will be looking for more than just candy on Halloween.

"On October 31st between 5 and 8 p.m. UCC students will be trick-or-treating with a purpose," said Nora Lucier, a Grade 10 student at Ursuline College Chatham. "So we will be collecting non-perishable items for the Chatham Outreach for Hunger."

This is the 15th year for Lancers Scare Hunger, and Outreach for Hunger is in need of all items right now.

"Anything canned or non-perishable would be ideal," said Grade 10 student Tara Wilson. "The UCC students will be wearing name tags to help identify them."

Lucier added that they are hoping to collect as much as possible.

"This year we will be making an effort to pick up from every street in Chatham. So we should be able to get everybody, but if not, just kindly drop them off at the food bank."

Outreach for Hunger is located at 10 Wellington Street West in Chatham.

Last year students ran an in-house food drive and collected over 1,000 items, and in 2020 when they went door-to-door, they collected over 2,000 food items.
