Hit and run victim mourned, vigil to be held in Ridgetown

A woman hit by a vehicle in Ridgetown in broad daylight last week has died.

CK News Today has learned that Wendy Clark, 66 of Howard Township, passed away on Friday after being airlifted to a Windsor hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Clark was hit by a passing vehicle as she was getting out of her own vehicle on Main Street around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, but the suspect vehicle took off.

A candlelight vigil is being organized for Clark at the site of the tragedy on Main Street in Ridgetown on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

"Our goal to having the vigil is to bring awareness to safer driving, (because) distracted driving kills. This incident could have been avoided, our family and community wouldn’t be grieving the loss of an amazing daughter, mother, grandmother and caregiver. Wendy would do anything for anyone and frequently put others before her needs. Ridgetown as a community has stepped up to help in the investigation and we are forever grateful. Drive safe, someone loves you," said her daughter Rachel Girard Mattsson. "As we move through this journey of grief losing our beloved daughter, mom, grandma, sister, life partner, and friend. The family of Wendy Clark want to bring the community of those who want to show support to one another and remember the most amazing woman! Everyone who wants to attend is welcome. Let’s light up the sky and form a path to heaven to let her know we are still here thinking of her. This is a night to get together and bring awareness before we have her celebration of life."

Visitation and a celebration of Clark’s life will be held on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club located at 25393 St. Clair Road in Dover.

A 38-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision resulting in bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and two Highway Traffic Act offences.
