Man accused of breaking into a residence, assaulting a woman

A 35-year-old Chatham man is facing a handful of charges after he was arrested in connection with a domestic violence investigation that included a break-in.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to a disturbance at a Chatham residence Saturday afternoon and learned that the man had allegedly forced his way into a woman's apartment before he assaulted her and took off with some items from her home.

Police said they found the man Sunday afternoon and arrested him.

He was charged with domestic-related offenses along with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions because he had been banned from communicating with the woman and ordered to stay away from her residence.

He was taken into custody and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
