Early voting lags in CK with a week left before election day

The final tally from the advance polling and online voting this week has been released by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the overall numbers are down.

On Monday, Director of Municipal Governance Judy Smith reported that, while the advance voting was up, the Internet voting was down compared to the municipal election four years ago.

Smith said there were 2,857 votes cast at this year's advance polls, a jump of nearly 600 votes from the 2,291 ballots cast four years ago. However, Internet voting dropped from 9,787 in the 2018 election to 7,366 in 2022. That's a drop of almost 2,400 votes.

Overall, the vote count went from 12,078 to 10,223.

"Looking forward to a busy election day!" said Smith.

She also reported the new Vote Van received 126 votes. It was the first year for the Vote Van.

Election Day is on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The new term of Council begins November 15, 2022.
