Farm near Thamesville hosts Army training this weekend

The Canadian Army Reserve is training with weapons near Thamesville this weekend.

Department of National Defence spokesperson Lt(N) Andrew McLaughlin said soldiers will be conducting heavy equipment and construction training on a private farm in Selton between Friday and Saturday. All activities will take place between 8 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

"During this period, members of the public may see military vehicles on the roads and on private property which has been secured through an agreement with the landowner. Participating soldiers may be seen with weapons but will not carry any ammunition," said McLaughlin. "This important training is being conducted in order to maintain and further develop the ability of Canadian Army Reserve soldiers to conduct tasks associated with responding to natural disasters in Canadian communities, and supporting international stability operations with partners and allies."

The public is asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles.

McLaughlin noted all measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience to those in the area.

He also thanks members of the community for their understanding and co-operation while this important training is completed.
