Carleton to represent Canada at FIBA World Cup

Chatham's Bridget Carleton will be suiting up for Canada when the FIBA Women's World Cup begins Wednesday, September 21.

The basketball tournament is taking place in Sydney, Australia and will feature 12 teams.

Carleton made the final cut and is set to play in the tournament opener against Serbia at 11 p.m. ET.

Canada is ranked 4th heading into the tournament and is playing in a tough Group B.

They will take on No. 6 ranked France on Friday, September 23 at 4 a.m. ET, No. 8 ranked Japan on the 25 at 6:30 a.m. ET, No. 3 ranked host Australia on the 26 at 6:30 a.m. ET, and then wrap up group play against No. 37 ranked Mali on the 27 at 2 a.m. ET. The top four teams in the group advance to the quarterfinals.

The winner of the tournament will be crowned world champions, and get an automatic berth to the summer Olympics in Paris in 2024.
