After multiple delays, the Third Street Bridge in Chatham is set to open back up this week.
Late Monday afternoon, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent announced that the bridge will be opening to traffic and pedestrians on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
"We would like to thank the residents of Chatham-Kent for their patience and understanding throughout the project," municipal officials said through a media release.
According to municipal officials, an event to celebrate the new bridge and the bridge sponsor, TekSavvy, will be scheduled this fall.
Details on the event will be shared in the coming months.
The bridge opening has been delayed three times since May 2021. Most recently, the bridge was scheduled to open on July 23. However, that date was pushed back because pedestrian safety railings did not arrive on time.
