Man charged after shoplifter leaves path of destruction in Ridgetown

Charges have been laid against a 35-year-old man after a bottle of booze was stolen and a vehicle, scooter, and window damaged in Ridgetown.

Chatham-Kent police were called to a business on Main Street that reported a man had taken a bottle of alcohol without paying on Saturday.

Police determined after the theft, the man threw a shop vacuum at a vehicle on Harold Street and then damaged a scooter and window at a building on Cecil Street.

The man was arrested a short distance away, police said.

A 35-year-old Ridgetown man is charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two counts of mischief under $5,000.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 26.

Report of suspicious men leads to arrest

Chatham-Kent police investigating a report of two suspicious men on Centre Street Saturday morning found a man who was wanted for violating a probation order.

Officers located the men and through their investigation learned the one was wanted.

A 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested. He has since been released with a future court date. --------------

Blenheim man charged with impaired driving

A 60-year-old Blenheim man is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police were called about a suspected impaired driver on Richmond Street on Saturday night.

Officers stopped the suspect vehicle and determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

The man was taken back to police headquarters for a breath test.

He has since been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
