Blue Jays Care Foundations supports local baseball league

A Wallaceburg baseball league continues to get support from some big-name organizations.

Throughout the summer, The Toronto Blue Jays Care Foundation, Little League Canada and Baseball Canada, through the Challenger Baseball program, have helped out the Community Living Wallaceburg Wolves baseball league by providing sports equipment and accessible resources to support the Wolves.

The Jays Care Foundation promotes baseball as a tool to teach people essential skills such as teamwork and independence and how to build self-esteem. The foundation provided the Wolves with adaptive equipment, t-shirts and merchandise for players and also a wide variety of coaching tools to support the athletes.

The program helps to continue the legacy of longtime Wallaceburg Wolves coach Aaron VanDorsselaer, who passed away in 2021.

According to Coach Jayna Dantas, around 48 athletes regularly came out to play with the Wolves this season.

"Individuals connected to Community Living Wallaceburg and others in our community had the opportunity to get back into the swing of baseball after a tough few years off due to the pandemic,” Dantas said. “I have really enjoyed watching all the athletes step out of their comfort zone, have great fun and get active. We plan to continue accessing this tremendous resource for years to come.” The athletes and Community Living Wallaceburg are very grateful for the support from the Jays Care Foundation, Little League Canada and Baseball Canada."
