Woman accused of stealing from docked boat

A 39-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing charges after she was allegedly caught red-handed by a boat owner in downtown Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the boardwalk on King Street West in Chatham at around 4:40 p.m. Monday after the owner of a boat that was docked there reportedly found a woman taking property from the vessel.

Police said the woman stayed at the scene until officers arrived. She was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and later released with a future court date.

Man allegedly spotted breaking into garage

A 32-year-old Wallaceburg man has been booked for breaking and entering after he was allegedly caught in the act late Monday night.

Police said their investigation started just before 11 p.m. Monday after they got a complaint about a break and enter at a property on Margaret Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officers said someone reported seeing a man going into a detached garage on the property and he was still inside by the time police arrived.

They called him out of the building and he was arrested.

The accused was charged and taken back to police headquarters, then released with conditions and a future court date.

Two arrested after domestic argument turns violent

Two people are facing charges in connection with a domestic disturbance on Taylor Avenue in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the residence just after 4 a.m. Tuesday and found multiple people outside.

Officers said they learned a woman and a man who were there had been arguing when the man allegedly threw the woman to the floor and stopped her from leaving a room.

Another person then intervened so that the woman could leave, at which point the man allegedly followed the woman and assaulted her.

Police said their investigation also showed that the woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant and was also bound by a court order not to communicate with the man.

A 19-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged accordingly.

A 22-year-old Chatham man was also arrested. He was charged with assault and forcible confinement.

Both of the accused were taken to police headquarters and were set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
