The two main bridges in downtown Chatham will soon have a new name.
On Monday, municipal council voted in favour of entering into a naming rights sponsorship agreement with TekSavvy for the re-naming of the Third and Fifth Street bridges.
"The Municipality of Chatham-Kent embarked on a new venture in June 2021 with The Naming Rights Company (TNRC) consultants to create new revenue streams to soften capital needs and enhance community building with brands who believe in strengthening local initiatives directly supporting lasting change through the selling of naming rights for municipally-owned assets," the report read.
The sponsorship will span over 10 years and cost the company $100,000 a year for a total investment of $1 million.
"It is widely known for bridges to have legacy and foundations attached to their landmarks," read the report. "TekSavvy has proudly proposed a 10-year commitment to partner as a strong community builder that the brand calls home in Chatham."
The Third and Fifth Street bridges play an integral part in moving people across the Thames River in Chatham.
A few examples of what the bridges could be named include the Third Street Bridge Powered by TekSavvy, Fifth Street Bridge Provided by TekSavvy, and TekSavvy, Proud Partner of the Third and Fifth Street Bridges.
"The timing of this announcement will build momentum and excitement in the lead up to the grand re-opening of the Third Street Bridge where the announcement of TekSavvy can be successfully integrated throughout the celebration," read the report. "If approved, administration and members of the team from TNRC would move the deal forward in time for the Third Street Bridge Grand Re-Opening from July 22 to 23."
A community engagement initiative will play a role in the naming decision.
