Blenheim teen arrested for impaired driving

A Blenheim man, who isn't even old enough to legally drink alcohol, is facing an impaired driving charge after police pulled him over in Chatham early Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they initiated the traffic stop on Alexandra Avenue after a vehicle was spotted "travelling at a high rate of speed."

Police believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so he was taken back to police headquarters for further breath tests.

An 18-year-old Blenheim man was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and was released with conditions pending a future court date.

Man accused of breaching conditions by calling woman

A 29-year-old Dover Township man who was released from custody back in March is in more trouble with the law.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from custody on March 17 with conditions, including one not to contact a specific woman.

Officers said despite that condition, the man reached out to the woman, got into an argument with her over the phone, and told her he was coming to see her.

Police were called in just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night on Baldoon Road and arrested the man.

He was charged with failing to comply with a release order, uttering threats, and criminal harassment. Police said he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for a previous incident.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
