A Big-Three Detroit automaker has recalled thousands of electric vehicles after concerns were raised about power loss.
The Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for over 57,000 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles sold in North America, with 7,600 in Canada. The Dearborn-based company cited a safety issue that could cause the vehicle to lose electrical power.
Crain's Automotive News reported Wednesday that the Mach-E's main battery voltage contractors could overheat, which could result in the vehicle not even starting, or a loss of propulsion while in motion, which may lead to a crash.
The vehicles in question were built at Ford's plant in Cuautitlan, Mexico, between May 27, 2020, and May 24, 2022.
Crain's reported that a software update is being worked on and should be available to mechanics next month. Dealers are still permitted to sell the Mustang Mach-E crossover vehicles, but there will be no delivery of those vehicles as they arrive.
Affected owners should receive a recall notice by mail or email. If your vehicle is included, you will be instructed on when to bring it to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for repair at no cost to you.
Ford Canada has not reported any injuries or vehicle damage due to this defect, and Crain's reported that no investigations are underway in either Canada or the U.S.
