COVID-19 claims two more lives in CK

COVID-19 has claimed the lives of two more Chatham-Kent residents.

Chatham-Kent Public Health said a man and a woman, both in their 80s, are the latest to succumb to the virus. Their deaths bring the local COVID-19 death toll to 72.

In its weekly update, the local health unit reported another 145 cases of COVID-19 in the community.

Local officials at the health unit also reported 145 new cases on Wednesday and eight COVID-19 patients in the hospital, none of whom are in the ICU.

The COVID positivity rate in Chatham-Kent sits at 16.4 per cent, compared to the provincial rate of 13.9 per cent.

Another outbreak has been declared at Blenheim Community Village, the second outbreak at the retirement home in the last few months.

Two outbreaks were declared at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Tuesday with hospital-acquired cases in both the Complex Continuing Care Unit and the Medicine B Unit at the Chatham hospital.
