Ottawa relaxes more rules at the border

Starting Monday, fully vaccinated travellers arriving in Canada will not have to provide a plan to quarantine should they test positive for COVID-19.

It's one of a couple of changes at the border.

"The gradual easing of restrictions for travellers is part of our balanced and science-based approach to managing COVID-19 and its variants," said Transport Minister Omar Alghabra. "Although some restrictions may be easing, air and rail travellers are reminded they are still required to wear a mask throughout their travel journey."

Unvaccinated children between five and 11-years, or those who haven't had all of their COVID-19 shots, no longer need a negative test to return home.

Pre-entry tests are still needed for anyone over 12 who is partially or unvaccinated.

Children under five years do not need a COVID-19 test because they are not eligible for vaccination.

The federal government is also relaxing masking rules for fully vaccinated travellers.

Those coming into the country are still required to use the ArriveCAN app within 72 hours of their arrival or before boarding a plane or cruise ship destined for Canada.
