Plans underway for Canada Day event at Tecumseh Park

Organizers of the annual Chatham Canada Day celebration are planning to bring the event back to Tecumseh Park this year after a two-year absence.

The free, family-friendly event will be held on Saturday, July 2 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. inside the park.

Organizer Chris Glassford says the event will feature a day full of free activities for children, a full lineup of local entertainment, a variety of local bands, as well as a beverage garden.

"Canada Day is an event that has always resonated with me. The celebration of our freedoms, country, and just getting together with the people in our community while putting aside our differences to share pride in our nation," said Glassford. "It would be a huge shame not to have a celebration in Chatham this year."

The event will be similar to past events, according to Glassford. He said planning is underway and there are talks of bringing back the Canada Day parade.

"We used to do a morning parade," said Glassford. "We would have the parade come through downtown Chatham and meet at Tecumseh Park where all of our festivities will start."

Organizers are still looking for partnerships, sponsors, and volunteers. Glassford said anyone who is interested can find more details about the event by emailing SummitShowsCanada@outlook.com.

"We can't wait to get out and see the smiling faces on people," said Glassford. "It's always an overwhelming feeling when you see all of these plans come together and you see people partaking in that social aspect of the event."
