Man Arrested for Break and Enter and Stolen Vehicles

Several charges have been laid against a Windsor man who made a very poor decision and allegedly tried to steal three vehicles instead of calling for a ride when his vehicle got stuck in a field.

Police said the suspect lost control of his own vehicle on Monday night around 11 p.m., slid off the road into a field, and went to a nearby restaurant to call a relative for a ride. However, he changed his mind and allegedly attempted stealing two vehicles from a business on Longwoods Road in Camden Township, but ran into a problem because the gates were locked. Investigators said that's when the suspect decided to drive through a ditch but got stuck in the mud both times.

The man then allegedly broke into a building on the property looking for keys to a third vehicle, but began walking when he was not able to find the keys. He was picked up by a passing driver and was taken to Chatham, but police identified him through video surveillance.

The 22-year-old Windsor man was arrested on Queen Street in Chatham and was charged with break and enter, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts of possession of stolen property.
