$4.4M in illicit pot seized in Leamington (GALLERY)

Four people from the Greater Toronto area have been charged after a raid resulted in the seizure of thousands of cannabis plants.

The Ontario Provincial Police's Community Street Crime Unit, acting under a bylaw from the Municipality of Leamington, obtained a warrant and raided a property on Mersea Road 5 near the Albuna Townline on Thursday.

Police found and confiscated over 7,600 cannabis plants in various stages of growth, along with approximately 227 kilograms of processed pot, and assorted types of growth equipment. The total street value of the goods was estimated at $4.4-million.

The four people, two from Scarborough and one each from Markham and Aurora, have been charged with cultivating, propagating, or harvesting more than four cannabis plants, contrary to the federal Cannabis Act. They will have a chance to respond to the charges at a later date in a Windsor court.
