Dog owners have until the end of the month to get their 2022 municipal dog tag.
Tags must be purchased by March 31 and you can buy your dog tag online, at the animal shelter in Chatham, or at any municipal office.
"All dog owners must obtain municipal dog licences (tags) for their dogs each year," said Animal Control Services Manager Benjamin Van Eyk.
Residents who choose not to purchase a tag this year are at risk of a $240 fine.
The cost is $28 for a dog that is spayed or neutered and $38 if they’re not. Plus, there is a $10 late fee if you wait until April. The revenue helps local animals, according to Van Eyk.
“It helps to fund animal services, which includes the shelter in Chatham and Wallaceburg, which helps get adoptions, and stray cats and stray dogs home. It also helps fund animal control services.”
If you no longer own a dog or you have moved, you can call 311 or 519-360-1998 to have your dog licence account inactivated or updated.
