Persistent flooding problems in Shrewsbury should be a thing of the past sometime soon.
The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (CK-PUC) has approved some funding to study and address drainage issues in Shrewsbury that have been around for generations.
The residents of Shrewsbury will be responsible for a share of future servicing costs in the area and 66 per cent approval from that community along with municipal funding approval is needed before the project is started.
Ward Councillor Trevor Thomson said this is a good first step to deal with septic tank and sewer issues and hopefully get a permanent solution for the community. He said the community is excited to get this project started.
The $264,000 Shrewsbury servicing study will also include erosion control to protect the shoreline.
CK-PUC approved $105,000 for the study on Thursday. Council will be asked to approve the rest of the funding for the study at its meeting on March 7, 2022.
