Two arenas in Chatham-Kent will remain open into the Spring and Summer.
The municipality said the Thames Campus arena and the arena in Blenheim will have Spring and Summer ice. Blenheim will have a delayed start to the Spring ice season due to an extension of the regular ice season and will start the Spring session on April 18, 2022, according to Rob Pollock, Director of Parks and Recreation.
Pollock said the Thames campus arena will start its Spring session on March 28, 2022. All of the other arenas will have their ice out between March 28, 2022 and May 1, 2022.
The arenas in Wallaceburg, Bothwell, Ridgetown, and WK Erickson in Chatham will have their ice out on March 28, 2022. The arenas in Tilbury and Wheatley will have their ice removed on April 11, 2022. The Dresden arena will get rid of its ice on April 18, 2022. Chatham Memorial Arena will have its ice out May 1, 2022.
The municipality is now trying to determine what ice time the user groups need this Spring and Summer and said if some Junior hockey teams go into late April or May for their playoffs, both Thames Campus and Blenheim arenas are available.
The municipality also said Summer ice at Thames Campus and Blenheim arenas will be available based on demand.
