Assault at rooming house in Chatham

A 24-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with assault after a verbal argument at a rooming house in Chatham turned violent.

Police said they were called to the building on Fourth Street in Chatham Saturday afternoon, adding that their investigation showed that the accused had assaulted another tenant.

The man accused of assault was arrested, charged and later released pending a future court date.

Charges laid after quartet of crashes

Chatham-Kent police have laid charges against four different drivers after four separate crashes in Chatham-Kent on Sunday.

Police said the first crash was a two-vehicle collision on Brigden Road between McCreary Line and Langstaff Line Sunday morning.

No injuries were reported an the damage was estimated at $20,000.

The driver who was determined to be responsible for the collision was charged with failing to share the roadway.

In the second crash, a 29-year-old Brampton man was charged with disobeying a stop sign.

Police said that was on Pain Court Line near Winter Line Road -- also Sunday morning.

No injuries were reported and the damage was estimated at $1,500.

In the third case, a driver was charged with careless driving after a two-vehicle crash on Park Avenue East near Peter Street in Chatham Sunday morning.

Police said one person was taken to the hospital as a precaution after that collision and that the total damage was estimated at $10,000.

And in the fourth crash, a driver was charged with making an unsafe turn after a two-vehicle collision on Industrial Park Road between Queen Street and Montpetit Road in Tilbury.

No injuries were reported there and the damage was estimated at $10,000.

Now that the snow has arrived, Chatham-Kent police are reminding you to clean off your vehicle before you leave the driveway.

Police issued a reminder on Twitter on Monday that "driving with an obstructed view is an offence that could cost you $110 fine."
